How do you choose a mattress for two people?

What width suits your bedroom?

A 140x190 mattress keeps a double bed relatively compact. A 160x200 mattress adds width and length, while a 180x200 mattress provides more room on either side. Your bed frame and base must fit the size you choose.

Measure the space around the bed, too. Generous width is pleasant for sleeping, but you still need access to storage and enough room to make the bed easily. The right balance takes the whole room into account.

Motion isolation and individual comfort

Motion isolation describes how much one person’s movements affect the other. It depends on the mattress construction and its base. Pocket springs and certain adjustable configurations offer different ways to address this need.

If your preferences differ, look for configurations that let you choose the comfort of each side. This option is available only on specific models and should be clearly listed in the options and description of the model you choose.

What materials are in the selection?

For a stationary bed used every night, start by comparing models designed for your bed base. For an extendable daybed, check that the mattress is explicitly compatible with the furniture and review its stated conditions of use.

Plan for practical details before buying

Weight, thickness, and access to the bedroom matter with a large mattress. Check the delivery route and make sure there is room to move the mattress for maintenance. Also check the pocket depth of your fitted sheets.
