How does a pocket spring mattress work?

Each spring sits in its own fabric pocket. This construction allows the spring system to respond locally to weight. The layers above it add their own feel, so the overall comfort depends as much on the surface cushioning as on the arrangement of the springs.

For a responsive feel at the surface, you can compare constructions containing latex with our latex mattresses. If the outer fabric is a priority, check its composition separately from the spring system. An organic cotton cover does not mean the entire mattress is made of organic cotton.

Check the height before choosing bedding

Thickness varies considerably across this range. Measure the total height with the bed base to keep the bed comfortable to sit on and easy to get into. With a recessed bed frame, also check the space available for the mattress and the compatibility of the base.

Complete your bedding without changing how the mattress feels

Choose a fitted sheet with pockets deep enough for the mattress’s actual thickness. Any mattress protector underneath should also fit without pulling at the corners. This check helps avoid surprises with taller models.
