An armchair for a space that feels like yours

An armchair lets you choose a seat that feels different from the sofa. It can create a reading nook by a window, provide extra seating for guests or make a more independent space. Its orientation affects how you use it: facing other seats, it encourages conversation; angled slightly away, it invites a more personal moment. Its place should therefore be considered in the context of the whole living room.

Our collection brings together upholstered shapes, swivel chairs and wooden frames with woven surfaces. Seat heights and depths vary. We recommend starting with your usual sitting posture and where you plan to place the chair. The fabric and color then give the armchair its character, but they do not replace the dimensions and support that determine its comfort.

Choosing the right seat height and depth

A low, deep seat invites a different way of sitting from a more upright armchair. Consider the seat height, usable depth and backrest angle together. For reading, forearm support may matter; for conversation, being able to rest your feet and sit up easily may take priority. A generously sized chair does not necessarily suit every posture.

Padding contributes to support, but foam density alone does not tell the whole story of comfort. Construction, cushions and proportions also matter. The product pages let you compare these details across models. If several people will use the armchair, choose dimensions that best suit their most common habits rather than relying on a general impression of softness.

Bouclé and fabrics for an inviting look

Bouclé and velvet armchairs offer a way to explore textures and upholstered silhouettes. The selection includes bouclé and other fabrics in light or colorful shades, depending on the model. A textured surface can add character to a simple room, while a smoother covering emphasizes the chair’s curves. Check the product page for the exact fiber composition.

The armchair does not have to match the sofa exactly. A shared color, a recurring material or similar curves can be enough to bring them together. In a living room already rich in patterns, a solid-colored chair offers visual breathing room. If the furniture is very simple, the armchair can introduce more texture or a more personal shade.

When should you choose a swivel chair?

A swivel armchair lets you change direction without moving the whole chair. It can be useful in an open-plan room, allowing you to turn toward a conversation or another part of the living room. The feature requires enough space around the backrest and armrests. The footprint of the stationary chair does not always account for all the space it needs to move.

Check the model’s mechanism details rather than assuming a particular swivel range or automatic return. A swivel chair does not necessarily recline. We recommend choosing this feature when it serves a real purpose in the room. It adds to the seating experience but does not replace choosing the right height or depth.

Wood and woven surfaces

Solid wood and cane armchairs bring a more open look to the living room. The selection also includes a combination of ash and rope, which is distinct from caning. The woven surfaces and exposed wood offer a different experience of the materials from fully upholstered chairs. They can visually lighten a group of seats with more enveloping shapes.

The Scandinavian-style armchair in the selection pairs a visible wooden frame with beige fabric. Its style inspiration does not indicate where it was made. Check its actual composition, support and seat height to see whether it suits your needs. The wood can then tie in with a table or bookcase already in the room.

Creating a complete reading nook

A wooden bookcase keeps books close to the armchair, alongside a lamp suited to your sitting position. Keep a small surface within reach for a book or cup, choosing its height in relation to the seat. The reading nook should remain connected to the living room without blocking an important walkway. Near a window, leave access to the curtains and allow room to open it.

A rug can help define this seating area, provided the chair remains stable. Consider the rug’s thickness and edges, especially with a swivel model. The aim is to create a place that is pleasant to use, not just a decorative arrangement. A few well-placed pieces are often enough to create a space where you enjoy spending time.

Caring for your chair and preparing for its arrival

Fabrics, wood and woven surfaces require different care. Follow the recommendations for your model, and do not assume a removable cover is machine washable. Gentle vacuuming with a suitable attachment may be appropriate for some upholstery. Avoid pulling on threads or woven elements, and check cleaning products before treating a stain.

Before making your final choice, compare the overall dimensions and check delivery access. Consider assembly and the space needed around the chair. Explore our armchair collection to find a seat whose posture, materials and features suit you and fit naturally into your living room and daily routines.
