140x190 beds

Why does the 140x190 bed remain an essential choice?

The 140x190 bed is the traditional double size. It accommodates two adults every night while retaining a modest footprint, suited to bedrooms where easy movement matters. Its 190 cm length works for most sleepers of average height and leaves more clearance than a 200 cm-long frame.

The collection brings together several interpretations of this size: a solid wood frame, a low Japanese-inspired silhouette, a fabric-covered frame or a lift-up base with storage. The dimensions stay the same; the materials and functions give each piece its character.

How much room does a 140 cm-wide bed offer two people?

Each sleeper has about 70 cm of space. This closeness can suit a couple who want to preserve generous walkways around the bed or place it in a modestly sized room. How independent each sleeper feels also depends on the mattress technology and support from the bed base.

If the bedroom has room for a wider bed, 160x200 beds offer twenty additional centimeters of width and greater length. The right choice balances sleeping comfort, access to storage and ease of movement.

When should you choose a 140x190 over a 140x200?

A 140x190 bed takes up ten centimeters less depth in the room. That difference can make it easier to open a door, walk past a dresser or place a bench at the foot of the bed. It makes sense when neither sleeper needs the extra length.

For a taller person, the 140x200 bed category offers the same width with more room at the foot. Compare exterior dimensions: an angled headboard or projecting frame can affect the overall footprint more than the mattress’s extra ten centimeters.

Which material sets the tone for the bedroom?

Solid wood offers a natural feel and a lasting presence. Beech has a fine, light grain; pine brings a softer warmth. An upholstered frame surrounds the bed and introduces a rich texture, from subtle bouclé to textured fabric.

FSC- or PEFC-certified finishes, water-based varnishes and solvent-free paints reinforce the furniture’s environmental approach. To explore frames that showcase the material, browse the 140x190 solid wood beds.

Is a low bed suitable for everyday use?

A low frame opens up the sightlines and creates a calm atmosphere, particularly pleasant under a sloped ceiling or in a minimalist bedroom. It can accommodate a slatted base and standard mattress, providing everyday comfort despite its futon-inspired silhouette.

The low height does, however, require enough mobility to get up easily. The Anatole model illustrates this approach with a solid beech platform made in France. Before choosing, also measure the frame edges, which may extend beyond the sleeping surface.

How can you add storage beneath the bed base?

A storage bed uses almost all the space beneath the mattress. Comforters, bedding and seasonal clothing stay out of sight yet accessible thanks to lift mechanisms. Some frames divide the space into compartments and add a bottom panel to protect the contents.

Explore the 140x190 storage beds to compare storage space and materials. Check the mattress weight supported by the mechanism, and make sure nothing obstructs the hinges before each closing.

Which bed base and mattress should you choose for two adults?

A slatted bed base supports the mattress and promotes airflow. On a wooden frame, center supports distribute the weight. On a storage bed, the base frame may be metal to withstand repeated opening. Always check whether the bed base is included.

The mattress should suit both sleepers’ preferences. Motion isolation limits the transfer of movement, while even support helps maintain body alignment. Weight and height also become technical considerations with a lift-up mechanism.

How can you keep the bedroom easy to move around?

Measure the entire frame and mark out walking space on the floor. Narrow or wall-mounted nightstands free up space at the sides. If access is possible from only one side, place the bed against a wall while leaving enough room to change the bedding and air the mattress.

A palette of light wood, ecru and mineral tones makes the room feel larger. Deeper-colored fabrics can frame the bed without weighing down the rest of the furniture. A rug placed partly beneath the bed adds softness and balances its width.

How do you choose a well-proportioned headboard?

A 140 cm headboard lines up exactly with the sleeping surface. A slightly wider model frames the nightstands and creates a more generous impression. The right height depends on the wall, mattress thickness and position of outlets or wall lights.

Wood highlights the frame’s material; fabric provides a softer surface to lean against. Check how the headboard attaches to the bed or wall, and give the arrangement room to breathe. An overly bulky headboard can undo the space-saving benefit of the 140x190 size.

What steps help extend the bed’s life?

Air the bedding each morning, dust the bed base and check the fasteners. Clean wood with a slightly damp cloth, then dry it. For a fabric-covered frame, use a soft brush and address stains promptly according to the manufacturer’s advice.

After a move, reassemble the frame methodically and check that it is square. Do not overload storage compartments, and observe the stated weight limits. These steps help keep the bed stable, quiet and comfortable to use over the years.
