What does a mattress topper do?

A mattress topper sits on top of the mattress to change how its surface feels. It may be worth considering if you are happy with the support but want a different surface feel. It complements your bed without replacing its main structure.

It will not, however, restore a sagging mattress or a damaged bed base. If your bed has a significant dip or other deformation, first look into the cause. Our mattress collection lets you compare options when replacement becomes necessary.

Two options in our selection

The mattress toppers with a Tencel and organic cotton outer fabric have polyester fiber filling. Available for one or two people, they add an extra textile layer. The name of the outer fabric therefore does not describe the filling material.

The natural latex version for two people consists of a latex core with a removable cover. This construction offers a different surface feel. Compare materials and thickness rather than treating all mattress toppers as equivalent.

How do you choose the right size?

A mattress topper should match the mattress’s sleeping surface. One that is too large may hang over the sides; one that is too small leaves a change in height at the edges. Measure your bed and select the exact size.

For a double bed, check how the support is arranged, too. If you have two separate mattresses, a single topper spanning both changes how the bed functions and will not suit every setup, particularly when each side needs to move independently.

How much room do you need beneath the fitted sheet?

The topper’s thickness adds to the mattress’s height. Our two types have different heights: the textile model is listed at 3 cm, while the latex version is 6 cm. This difference matters when fitting your bedding.

Check the pocket depth of your fitted sheet and mattress protector. If you want them to wrap around both layers, the pockets must accommodate the total height without pulling at the corners or unnecessarily compressing the topper.

Mattress topper or mattress protector?

A mattress topper changes how the surface feels. A mattress protector primarily helps shield the bed from dirt and, if waterproof, liquids. These accessories serve different purposes and may need to be layered in a particular order.

Care instructions for each construction

The latex model’s cover and the fiber-filled topper have different cleaning instructions. Read the care label before washing, and let each component dry completely before making the bed. Damp material should not remain trapped beneath the sheets.
