Mattress protector
Our waterproof, breathable mattress protectors add a protective layer between the mattress and fitted sheet. Available in single and double sizes according to the dimensions offered, they should also be chosen for the height of your mattress to ensure a good fit.
Why use a mattress protector?
A mattress protector makes bedding easier to care for by adding a removable layer over the mattress. A waterproof version helps keep liquids from reaching the mattress. It goes beneath the fitted sheet, which remains the fabric you sleep on.
Our selection includes single- and double-size options. To choose, start with your mattress’s exact dimensions and height. The protector should cover the surface without excess fabric or tension at the corners.
Protection made from several materials
The double-size model combines a surface containing organic cotton and polyester with a polyurethane membrane. Its fitted sides are made of organic cotton jersey. This construction distinguishes the fabric surface from the waterproof layer.
The word “cotton” therefore does not mean the entire protector is made from that fiber. Check the composition and care instructions for your chosen model so you know how to use and wash it properly.
What size and pocket depth should you choose?
The width and length should match the mattress. Pocket depth describes the portion that wraps around its sides. All three measurements matter: a protector with the right surface dimensions may still be too shallow for a tall mattress.
The product page for our double-size model states that it fits mattresses up to 30 cm thick. If your mattress is taller, do not force it to fit. Check the total thickness as well if you want to place a mattress topper under the protector.
Mattress protector or fitted sheet?
The two products serve complementary purposes. The fitted sheet covers the bed and provides the surface you feel. The protector goes underneath to help preserve the mattress. An ordinary sheet does not automatically provide a waterproof barrier.
Once both pieces are in place, the surface should be smooth and the corners secure. Avoid layering several ill-fitting pieces: they can create wrinkles and unnecessarily change how the bed feels.
How should you care for the protector?
Follow the instructions on the product label. The double-size model described here can be washed at 60°C and should not be tumble dried. Let it dry completely before putting it back on the mattress to avoid trapping moisture.
Keeping a second protector makes changes easier. You can wash one without leaving the mattress uncovered while it dries. Remember to air out your bedding and regularly check the condition of the fabric and membrane.
Completing your bedding protection
A pillow protector serves the same care purpose for your pillow, beneath its pillowcase. Then coordinate your bed linens according to your sizes and preferred textures.
We recommend choosing a protector that fits your mattress well rather than settling for an approximate size. The dimensions, pocket depth and care requirements all help keep your bedding practical and pleasant to use every day.
