Comforter
Our comforters offer several approaches to comfort: synthetic fiber filling with a cotton or Tencel-and-organic-cotton shell, or down-and-feather filling. Choose the warmth, size, and care requirements that suit your nights.
Which comforter should you choose for your bedroom?
Choosing a comforter depends on the room temperature, how sensitive you are to warmth, and how much coverage you want. A very warm comforter may not feel comfortable in a bedroom that is already heated. Start with your sleeping habits before comparing materials.
Our selection includes fiber-filled styles and a down-and-feather option. Shells and warmth levels vary by style, giving you a choice of different sleeping experiences.
Understand the difference between shell and filling
The shell is the comforter’s outer fabric; the filling is inside. A shell made from organic cotton or Tencel and organic cotton may therefore contain polyester fiber filling. The material listed for one does not necessarily describe the other.
The down-and-feather version has a different composition, with a cotton percale shell. Check both the shell and the filling on the product page to choose according to your preferences for material, loft, and care.
Lightweight or warmer: how do they compare?
Some styles come in several fill weights and are described as lightweight or suitable for multiple seasons. Fill weight indicates the mass of filling per unit of area, but it is not enough on its own to compare the warmth of different materials.
A down comforter and a fiber-filled comforter cannot be compared by fill weight alone. Consider the stated warmth level and the usual temperature of your bedroom. How warm you personally feel should remain central to your choice.
Choose a size that covers the bed well
The comforter should cover everyone sleeping in the bed and provide the desired drape over the sides. It should be larger than the mattress. For a double bed, allow for each person’s movements so neither is easily left uncovered.
Then check that the duvet cover has exactly the same dimensions. For a very large bed, such as one with a 200x200 mattress, pay particular attention to the available sizes before completing your bedding set.
What should you consider when caring for it?
Care instructions vary by style. Washing temperatures and drying methods may differ between a fiber-filled comforter and a down version. Check the care instructions and make sure your equipment can accommodate the size you choose.
A comforter must dry completely before you put it back on the bed or store it. A duvet cover makes routine care easier and lets you wash the comforter itself less often. Air your bedding as well to prevent moisture from lingering beneath the covers.
Create a well-balanced bed
Pair the comforter with a pillow whose loft and softness suit you. Bed linens add texture and color; choose each piece in the right size.
We recommend choosing your comforter based on how much warmth you need, then narrowing down the material and size. This lets you create a comfortable bed at your own pace, without always opting for the heaviest or warmest filling.
