Sofa

Which sofa should you choose for your living room?

Choose a sofa for the time you’ll spend on it as much as for its silhouette. Some people like a deep seat for relaxing; others prefer a backrest that supports a more upright position. Reading habits, evenings together and the room’s layout all help guide the choice. We recommend deciding where the sofa will go first, then comparing its proportions before settling on upholstery.

Our collection includes stationary and sleeper sofas, in standard and sectional configurations. Smooth fabrics, bouclé and corduroy offer different textures and visual depth. This variety lets you choose seating that suits your home without separating comfort from function. Frame, cushioning and sleeping-surface details vary by model; you can compare them on the individual product pages.

Standard or sectional sofa?

A standard sofa fits easily against a wall or in the center of a room to help define the space. It gives you more flexibility to add a separate armchair, move the coffee table or change the layout over time. Its straight shape also suits a living room with openings on opposite sides, where it is important to keep a clear path between them. Check its overall depth, though: a straight shape can still be very generous.

A sectional sofa creates a more enveloping space to relax. The chaise extends the seating area and can help define it within the living room. Choose its orientation by looking at the room from where the sofa will stand, then check how the product page defines left and right. Some models are reversible, but you cannot assume that simply because they have a corner section. Make sure access to a window or storage remains clear.

Stationary or sleeper: comparing two uses

A stationary sofa is a good choice when you primarily want seating for the day and evening. The collection includes corduroy models and smooth-fabric versions with different seat depths. Consider the width of the armrests and the seating space actually available between them. Two sofas with similar dimensions can feel very different depending on the cushion design and the angle of the backrest.

A sleeper sofa adds a place to sleep. Several models have a quick-opening mechanism and a mattress separate from the seat cushions, with varying thicknesses and dimensions. If you plan to sleep in your living room every night, compare the sleeping surface, mattress support and steps needed to open the sofa as carefully as you consider seated comfort. Measure the space it takes up when open, too; the paths through the room change between configurations.

How many seats do you need?

A two- or three-seat designation is a useful starting point, but it is not enough to estimate a sofa’s width. Some armrests take up considerable room, while others leave more space for seating. A two-seat sofa can therefore be quite wide overall. If space is limited, start with the overall width and depth, then check the usable seating space between the sides.

In a shared living room, a three-seat sofa offers different ways to settle in: sitting side by side, spreading out to read, or pairing it with armchairs. The ideal model depends on how many people use the room every day. A larger sofa also calls for a suitable coffee table and more space around it. Conversely, a sofa that is too short may mean adding more chairs, making it harder to move around the room.

Choosing a fabric for its feel and texture

Smooth fabric highlights the sofa’s overall lines and pairs easily with textured pillows. Bouclé adds more pronounced texture, often appealing in an understated color palette. Corduroy creates visible lines that change with the light. These looks alone tell you nothing about the fiber content or cleaning method. A soft feel does not necessarily mean a natural material.

Consider the color in its surroundings: warm-toned flooring, a white wall and evening light can all change how the same shade appears. In a room with many patterns, solid-color upholstery makes coordinating easier. If the furniture is understated, a deeper color can give the living room character. If samples are available for the model you’re considering, comparing them in the room can help you decide.

Understanding comfort details beyond a single number

Seat height partly determines how you sit down and get up. Seat depth affects back support, while the shape of the armrests contributes to comfort when reading. Foam density describes one aspect of the cushioning, but it does not tell the whole story of how firm a sofa feels. Perceived firmness also depends on the seat construction and how its different components work together.

Depending on the model, the product pages in our selection provide details about the wood frame, foam, support system and country of manufacture. The selection includes pieces made in Italy and Spain. These details allow for a practical comparison without assigning a single origin to the entire collection. We recommend focusing on the criteria that truly affect your comfort and how you’ll use the sofa, then checking the details of your chosen model.

Planning for setup and care

Before ordering, measure the doors, stairs and passageways leading to the living room. The dimensions of the assembled sofa are not the same as those of its shipping packages. Some designs have separable components, but check whether this applies to your chosen model. Leave enough room around the sofa to move and clean. A sleeper sofa also needs clear space in front for its mechanism to open.

For care, follow the instructions for the upholstery. Gentle, regular vacuuming helps remove dust; treat stains with a product and method suited to the fabric. Removable cushions do not necessarily have machine-washable covers. Explore our selection and choose a sofa whose size, comfort and fabric fit naturally into your daily life.
