Trundle daybed

Why choose a trundle daybed for an adult bedroom?

The trundle daybed combines a welcoming seat and two full-size sleeping spaces in a clean-lined piece of furniture. During the day, its frame surrounds the mattress like a daybed. When both beds are needed, the lower bed base pulls out from beneath it.

This design helps an adult bedroom, studio, or multipurpose room remain easy to move around in. The second bed disappears completely when closed, without compromising the main bed or requiring a double bed to remain in place all the time.

How does the lower bed pull out?

The lower bed base usually slides out on wheels. Retractable legs then let you raise it to approximately the height of the main bed. The two beds can be used separately or placed together to create a wider sleeping surface.

This simple mechanism is suitable for regular use. There’s no need to fold the mattress, and each bed retains its own base. Just keep the area in front of the daybed clear so the lower bed is easy to pull out.

Which dimensions should you choose?

The 90x190 size provides a compact bed for an adult. The 90x200 offers extra length, particularly for taller people. Some models are 80 cm wide or have an expandable system that can form a larger bed.

If accommodating two adults is your main priority, also explore the two-person daybeds category. It lets you compare trundle and expandable designs based on the available space.

How can you make the daybed comfortable during the day?

The mattress serves as the seat. Large, firm cushions against the backrest reduce the seat depth and provide good support. A throw protects the bedding and gives the piece a more sofa-like appearance.

A wall sconce frees up space around the bed. A flat-weave bedroom rug defines the relaxation area without getting in the wheels’ way. Avoid placing heavy or fixed tables in front of the lower bed.

Can both beds be used every night?

Yes, provided you select suitable mattresses and stay within the frame’s specified limits. Slatted bed bases encourage airflow and provide consistent support. Solid-wood or certified wood-panel frames are designed to withstand repeated opening.

The lower mattress must be thin enough to fit beneath the bed. Check the model’s product listing before ordering, and explore different options in our selection of mattresses for adults.

Which materials should you choose?

Solid pine and beech offer good stability and natural warmth. FSC- or PEFC-certified wood panels make it possible to build sturdy frames while providing assurance about the wood’s sourcing. Water-based paints and solvent-free finishes limit unwanted emissions in the bedroom.

The selection includes pieces made in France and elsewhere in Europe. White, natural wood, gray, and khaki fit easily into an adult bedroom, while textiles offer a simple way to refresh the look.

How does it differ from a trundle sofa bed?

The distinction lies mainly in what you’re looking for. The trundle daybed emphasizes its enclosed frame and second bed base. The trundle sofa bed puts more emphasis on seating and how the piece looks in the room during the day.

In both cases, proper bed bases and separate mattresses make everyday use possible without sacrificing an elegant room.

How should you care for the mechanism and frame?

Regularly remove dust from around the wheels and check that nothing blocks their path. Clean the frame with a soft, slightly damp cloth, without abrasive products. Pull out the lower bed periodically to air out its mattress.

These simple steps help keep the mechanism moving smoothly and preserve the wood finish and bedding over the years.

A more flexible bedroom, day to day

The trundle daybed lets you read, relax, and sleep in the same room without adding more furniture. It provides two places for adults to sleep while keeping a clean-lined silhouette when closed.
