Bed base

Which bed base should you choose for your bedroom?

The bed base supports your mattress. Choosing one depends on the mattress size, how the bed will be set up, and the space available. Our selection offers two options: upholstered bed bases that stand on their legs, and storage beds with a lift-up bed base. You can start with your main priority: creating a bed with clean lines or adding storage beneath it.

Upholstered bed base or lift-up storage bed base: comparing two uses

An upholstered base for a finished look

Our upholstered bed bases combine a solid pine frame and slats with beige or gray fabric upholstery. Natural beech legs are included. You can place the bed base directly in the bedroom, then add a mattress of the same size. A separate headboard can complete the setup to suit your decor.

This design suits a fixed bed without a storage mechanism. The nonslip surface helps keep the mattress in place. Upholstered models are 30 cm high with their legs; the mattress adds to that height.

Storage that makes use of the space beneath the mattress

A lift-up storage bed base is part of a storage bed: the mattress support lifts to provide access to the space underneath. Our storage bed models come with a bed frame and lifting mechanism. They provide a place for linens or seasonal items without adding another piece of furniture.

Depending on the model, the mattress support consists of exposed slats or an upholstered platform. The storage space may be undivided or split into several compartments, with or without a bottom panel. These differences matter as much as the stated capacity: they affect how you store and retrieve your belongings.

Start with the right size

The twin bed bases in the selection are available in 80 × 200 or 90 × 200 cm, depending on the type chosen. For two people, sizes range from 140 × 190 to 180 × 200 cm, with availability varying by model. Here, the 80 × 200 cm size is a single upholstered bed base.

The bed base must match the size of the mattress. For a storage bed, also check the furniture’s overall dimensions and the space needed to open it. For a double upholstered bed base, check whether it comes as one piece or two: this will help you plan how to get it through the entrances and hallways of your home.

Check that the bed base and mattress work together

The mattress type, its size, and the manufacturer’s recommendations will help you check whether the support is compatible. For a storage bed, mattress weight also matters: it must fall within the range specified for the chosen model’s lift mechanism. This range is not the same as the maximum weight the bed can support during use.

Finally, check what is included. Upholstered bed bases come with their legs, but without a mattress or headboard. Among the storage beds, some are sold as sets that include a mattress, while others are sold without one. Compare these details to choose a setup that suits the furniture you already have and your everyday comfort.
