Storage bed base

What is a storage bed base?

A storage bed base combines a lift-up mattress support with storage space beneath the bed. In our selection, you choose a complete piece of furniture: the bed frame, storage compartment and base form one unit. Hardware or gas struts alone are not the product offered.

This design makes use of space the bed already occupies. Sheets, comforters and seasonal items can be kept close to the bed without an additional dresser. The bed stays ready for sleep each night, while the storage becomes accessible when you lift the base.

How do you choose the right support for your mattress?

The collection includes lift-up slatted bases and upholstered bases with fabric-covered platforms. The former have visible, spaced slats; the latter have a fabric-covered surface. On some models, breathable fabric and ventilation openings complement the platform. Check each model’s construction against your mattress’s support recommendations.

The mattress weight matters as much as its size for the mechanism to work properly. The permitted range varies by storage bed: one model may require a mattress weighing 16 to 30 kg, another 20 to 40 kg. The bed’s maximum load is a separate figure for the weight it supports when closed. Check both specifications on the product page.

Which size is right for your bedroom?

The 90 × 200 cm size provides a single bed with storage. For two people, the 140 × 190 cm, 140 × 200 cm and 160 × 200 cm sizes let you balance room on the mattress with space to move around the bedroom. These measurements refer to the sleeping surface, not the furniture’s external dimensions.

Measure the space for the bed and leave room at its foot to operate the mechanism. A headboard may increase the overall width or depth. Compare the complete external dimensions and the way the bed opens, especially if your bedroom has a sloped ceiling, a radiator or nearby storage furniture.

Organize the under-bed storage to suit your belongings

One large, undivided space makes it easier to store bulky items. Fixed compartments let you separate sheets, blankets and clothing. Check whether the bed has a bottom panel, too: some do, while others leave belongings resting on the floor. Suitable bags or boxes can then help group and protect your linens.

The bed opens using a handle or strap, with gas-strut assistance depending on the design. Keep stored items below the usable height of the compartment so there is room for the base to move and operate normally. Storage capacity in liters, when provided, depends on the model and size selected.

With or without a mattress: compare sets carefully

Most models let you choose your own mattress. Some configurations include a headboard; others let you add one separately. Bed base and mattress sets are also available, combining the storage bed with a mattress. Checking what each set includes helps you compare equivalent offers.

If you’re keeping your current mattress or choosing from our mattresses, check its size, recommended support and weight. Finally, check the package dimensions: depending on the model, the base may arrive in one piece, in several sections or ready to assemble. This may determine your choice if access to your home is narrow.
